the former Leith Central Railway Station at the foot of Leith Walk, Edinburgh, now a GP surgery

This building at the foot of Leith Walk in Edinburgh is one of a surprising number of relics of past railway lines in the city. In this case the main building and entrance to Leith Central Station, the terminus of a North British Railway branch line from Waverley. The station had four platforms, covered by a train shed. The station closed to passengers in the 1950s. The in the 1980s the now derelict buildings inspired a scene in Irving Whelsh's Trainspotting and one scene in the subsequent film uses the interior of the main building, now occupied by a GP practice. Most of remainder of the original site is now occupied by a Tesco Superstore.
