the Castle and the Wallace Monument from the North West
Stirling Castle from Dumbarton Road to the west of the city. A castle has stood on site, guarding what was the lowest crossing point on the River Forth, from the 12th century. Most of the existing castle dates from the 16th Century. To the left of the castle the Wallace monument, commemorates the 14th century Scottish hero, was built in the 19th century.
